Momentum Continues Through Closing Session of Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–SEPTEMBER 3, 2023–


The final session of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale saw steady trade from start to finish Sunday night headlined by a $540,000 Apollitical Jess colt purchased by West Texas Racing Partnership. The sale closed with 344 of the 406 horses through the ring sold for gross receipts of $27,033,000, at an average price of $79,735, up 9% over last year, and a median of $50,000. Sixty-two horses failed to sell, representing an RNA rate of 18%. Through all sessions last year, 360 horses of the 409 on offer were sold for final figurers of $26,323,500, an average price of $73,121 and median of $51,500. Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. consigned Sunday's high-seller, Hip 383 Apollitical Crown out of Adolph Tres Knockout. The Apollitical Jess colt is a full or half-sibling to five black type including champion As And Js.


Dale Boydston paid $450,000 for Sunday's second high-seller, Hip 425, Apollitical Maverick. Dunn Ranch consigned the full brother to two-time Champion of Champions winner Apollitical Pence. The colt is out of the Tres Seis mare Send City. West Texas Racing Partnership also purchased Sunday's thrid high-seller Hip 406, Beamonesque, for $440,000. Bobby D. COx consinged the Favorite Cartel colt out of Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner All About Ease. Beamonesque is half-brother to 12 black type included Ed Burke Milion Futurity(G1) winner Chazaq and Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Zoomin With Ease.


Marty Powers, Agent for Kelly Yother Equine, LLC sold Sunday's fourth high-seller, Hip 417 Turris Fortis for $400,000 to Ty Baca and Kimmie Middleton. The colt is from the stakes-placed and stakes-producing Tac It Like A Man mare Symbol Of Faith. The second dam is Answer The Dream.


In Saturday's second session the overall sale-topper, a record setting Feature Mr Jess Colt, sold for a record $1,000,000. Jumonville Farms, Agent for Bunny and J.E. Jumonville, Jr. consigned Hip 239 Mr Pacmann purchased by Elite Racing.


West Texas Racing Partnership was the sale's leading buyer with nine purchases for $2,045,000. Elite Racing had the one for $1,000,000 and Reliance Ranches, LLC paid $994,000 for 12 yearlings.


Burns Ranch, Agent was the sale's leading consignor and/or agent with 23 head grossing $1,968,000. Marty Powers, Agent for Kelly Yother Equine, LLC sold 20 head for $1,923,000. MJ Farms, Agent sold 20 head for $1,688,000 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC sold 23 yearlings for $1,541,000.


Eye Am King was the leading sale sire (be average, with two or more sold) with three yearlings averaging $130,667. Jesse James Jr had two for $125,000, Apollitical Jess sold 33 yearlings for a $122,909 average and Favorite Cartel had 49 yearlings average $114,531.


Champion Tell Cartel was the leading first-crop sale sire (be average, with two or more sold) with three for a $113,000 average. Champion Uncle D had seven average $66,857 and Grade 1 winner Gold Heart Eagle V sold eight yearlings for a $50,625 average.
