SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 10, 2024— Kj Bootscootin Jess extended his win streak to three straight on Sunday while posting the fastest qualifying time from three trials contested at Sunland Park for the Grade 3 $108,030 West Texas Maturity.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Sunland Park's raceway on Sunday, March 31 to vie for the winner's share of the purse going 400 yards, a 101 speed index. Under jockey Adrian Ramos, Kj Bootscootin Jess got up late to defeat Shaker No Secret by a neck while posting the fastest clocking of :19.279 seconds.
Trainer Wesley Giles conditions the 4-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Jess for John and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares. The Lee's bred the graded stakes-placed earner of $165,222 in Arizona from the Ivory James mare Xquizit.
Kj Bootscootin Jess entered the trials off back-to-back allowance wins at Sunland Park and Zia Park respectively. He gelding was third in the West Texas Futurity(G1) at Sunland Park in 2022.
