Fastest Qualifier Tempting Cowboy Returns To Win Sweetwater QH Derby




Tempting Cowboy, under jockey SDavid Alvarez, Jr., won the $75,500 Sweetwater QH Derby on Saturday's race card.

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–SEPTEMBER 7, 2024–The fastest qualifier, Tempting Cowboy, returned today to win the $75,500 Sweetwater QH Derby by a half-length at Sweetwater Downs.


Tempting Cowboy drifted in at the start under jockey David Alvarez, Jr., completing the 400 yards in 19.723 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index. Trainer Josh Taylor saddled the son of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 to his seventh win in 15 career starts.

Racing for owner-breeder Bill Doenz, Tempting Cowboy earned $30,200 to boost his bankroll to $73,888. Bred in Oklahoma, the 3-year-old colt is out of the Tempting Dash mare Sweet Temptation.


Jr Sakes Alive earned $15,100 under jockey Jesus Valenzuela for finishing second. Kylie Valenzuela trains the Pappasito filly for owner CG Racing LLC. J R Stables bred Jr Sakes Alive in Nevada from the One Famous Eagle mare Jr Mahalia. The multiple stakes winner has earned $112,140.


Justin and Amy Davis' Utah homebred Jaj Baby B Train finished 1-1/4 lengths back to earn $7,550 for third. Javier Garcia had the riding assignment aboard the Freighttrain B gelding for trainer Calli Dominguez. He has earned $18,150 in nine starts.
