All Time Money Earner Gets Fifth Grade 1 In All American Gold Cup


RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–SEPTEMBER 4, 2023–


Kj Desparado got his 14th career win and extended his all-time earnings record on Monday when he defeated Flash Bak by a neck in the $250,000 All American Gold Cup(G1) at Ruidoso Downs Race Track & Casino.


Kj Desparado drifted in late under jockey Adrian Ramos to complete the 440 yards in :21.500 seconds into a 20 mph headwind. The richest Quarter Horse in history survived a claim of foul from fourth-place finisher to collect the $110,236 winner's purse.


Wesley T. Giles trains the two-time champion earner of $2,905,599 for owners John and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares. L&L Land & Cattle bred the Apollitical Jess 4-year-old in Arizona from the Tres Seis mare Tres Veses.


The five-time Grade 1 winner won the 2021 All American Futurity(G1) at Ruidoso Downs.


Also a Grade 1 winner runner-up Flash Bak got up at the wire to get second for owner Valeriano Racing Stables LLC. Champion jockey Francisco Calderon rides the 5-year-old son of Moonin The Eagle for trainer Santos Carrizales, Jr.


Bred in Missouri by Jim Streelman and Bill Dale, Flash Bak has earned $1,267,657. He is out of the Check Him Out mare Checnback, the dam of 2023 All American Derby winner Whiskey Creek.


Starting off a win in the Grade 2 Mr Jet Moore Handicap on July 30, Bomb Cyclone vied throughout to finish a nose back in third. Trainer Christopher O'Dell conditions the $1.4 million dollar earner for owner Rosenthal Ranch LLC. Eduardo Nicasio rode the Favorite Cartel California bred out of Remember Me Rose by Corona Cartel. Steve D. Burns DVM is the breeder.


Lethal Avenger, A Tres Of Eagle and Good Reason Cartel completed the field. High Flying Hero and WIldroses101 were scratched.
