ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 3, 2024—Cyclone Derby winner Ab Boogie won the $40,000 Cy-Hawk Stakes at Prairie Meadows on Saturday, his second consecutive stakes victory of the meet.

Under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Ab Boogie broke well and pulled away from runner-up Five Bar Phi in the stretch to win by half a length. The son of champion sire Apollitical Blood completed the 350 yards in 17.324 seconds, equaling a 102-speed index.

Trainer Manuel Campos saddled Ab Boogie to his third career win in eight starts for owner-breeder Ruben Mojica. The Iowa-bred 3-year-old, out of Boogie Wagon by Lil Kool Wagon, picked up $18,800 for the effort, bringing his earnings to $90,245.  He was second in the Jim Bader Futurity at Prairie Meadows last year.

Runner-up Five Bar Phi was also second to Ab Boogie in the Cyclone Derby, his last start on July 7.  Edward Ross Hardy conditions the Five Bar Cartel gelding for owner Christine Hovey.

Cory Kilgore bred last year's Hawkeye Futurity winner from the Feature Mr Jess mare Number One Chorreada. The six-time winner was ridden by Angel Ramirez. Five Bar Phi earned $7,200, which increased his earnings to $119,550.

B/B Wessels LLC's Vals Sizzling Lips was a nose back for trainer Alex Wessels to earn $4,000 for third. Josue Ramirez rode the 5-year-old Valiant Hero mare out of Miss Jess Lips V by Mr Jess Perry. Jeff State is the breeder.

Ec Wagon, Racing The Rails, Badrapidfastcat, Duke Of Cartel, and Dashin Davey Crocket completed the field.
