Orbyson Gets Up To Win $72,190 Sam Houston Juvenile Invitational

HOUSTON, TX–MAY 6, 2022–Bumped at the start, post time favorite Orbyson used a strong drive under jockey Jose Herbert to get up by a neck over Tic It To The Dance in the $72,190 Sam Houston Juvenile Saturday night at Sam Houston Race Park.

The son of leading third-crop sire ONE FABULOUS EAGLE completed the 330-yard task in :17.090 seconds, equaling an 89-speed index into a 3-mph headwind. It was the second win in as many starts for the Texas-bred gelding out of Shazumba by Shazoom.

Juan Diaz, Jr. conditions Orbyson for owner TYKHE Racing LLC who paid $50,000 for the gelding at the 2021 TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio. Bred by Bobby D. Cox, Orbyson picked up $21,657 for the effort and pushed his earnings to over $30,600.

"We were expecting a better break, so we're very nervous, but he prepped to us how good of a horse he is," Romeo Mireles of TYKE Racing said. "We are very happy and really enjoy this game."

The colt is paid in the $500,000-est. TQHA Sale Futurity (RG3) in July but Mireles said they plan to go to Ruidoso Downs to compete in the $3 million Grade 1 All American Futurity trials in August.

Runner-up Tic It To The Dance picked up $18,048 for owner Joe Ruiz Jr.  Jose Camacho trains the $100,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate by leading sire Mr Jess Perry. Bob and Jerry Gaston bred the gray gelding from the Fishers Dash mare Double Down Darling. He has banked $27,048 in two starts. Luis Vivanco was up.

Unruly in the gate Gone Grand finished half-a-length back to earn $14,348 for third. Owner-trainer Jose Dolores Camacho paid $15,000 for the son of multiple stakes sire FDD Going Grand at the 2021 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Jerry Windham bred the colt in Texas from the Tres Seis mare Trash Tres. Eliazar Vera had the riding call.

Eyeing A Goodtime, Lil Kevin, Feature Five Bar, Irish Vamoose, Sygnfycant Impact, Lady Valiant and Valiant Lancer completed the field.
