Muy Peligrosito Puts Win Streak On The Line in Grade 3, $172,203 West Texas Derby

Fastest qualifier Muy Peligrosito is the morning-line favorite for Saturday’s 400-yard, $172,203 West Texas Derby (G3) at Sunland Park.


SUNLAND PARK, NM—JANUARY 31, 2021—Muy Peligrosito, a son of ONE FABULOUS EAGLE trained by Eric Valenzuela for owner Super Champion Inc., will risk his four-race win streak in Saturday’s 400-yard, $172,203 West Texas Derby (G3) at Sunland Park.

Muy Peligrosito has earned $150,540 from five races, and his four wins include a 1 3/4-length victory in the September 6, 440-yard All American Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Ruidoso Downs, and the December 5, 440-yard Southwest Juvenile Championship Stakes (G2) at Zia Park. The fastest qualifier, the sorrel gelding made his season debut with a one-length win in the fifth of six West Texas Derby trials on Janury 14.

Muy Peligrosito drew post 3 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos.

Other contenders include Lethal Avenger, a gelded son of Volcom racing for J & SM Inc., Don Reynolds, and M. Lane Reynolds and a $50,000 purchase at the 2020 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Lethal Avenger is coming off of a juvenile campaign during which he banked $168,741 from seven outs and scored a half-length victory in the September 19, $252,000 La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs.

Lethal Avenger drew post 10 and will be ridden by Noe Garcia Jr. for trainer Fred Danley.
