PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ—AUGUST 25, 2021—Pragmatik, a 40-1 longshot, broke her maiden in the first of three trials today for the Arizona Downs QH Futurity, setting the fastest qualifying time.
Ridden by jockey Aaron Belloc, Pragmatik led all the away as she defeated Pretty Lethal Eagle by three-quarters while completing the 400 yards in :19.761 seconds, a 95 speed index. It was the first win in five starts for the daughter of multiple stakes sire IVORY JAMES.
Trainer Armando Castellanos conditions the $6,500 Heritage Place 2020 Winter Mixed Sale graduate for owner Melesio Arvizu. Bred in Louisiana by Iris Buchanan, from the Tempting Dash mare Ima Dashing Gator, Pragmatik has compiled a (5) 1-1-0 record and banked $3,545.
Pragmatik returned $81.20 to win, $15.40 to place and $8 to show.
Pretty Letha Eagle, a California-bred daughter of leading second-crop sire ONE FABULOUS EAGLE, held on for the third fastest clocking of :19.854 seconds, a 92 speed index. Trainer Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela was saddling the brown filly to just her second career start for owner Joseph Belloc.
Veronica Kawananakoa bred Pretty Lethal Eagle from the First Down Dash mare Pretty Lethal. Joseph Belloc, Jr. had the riding call aboard the $5,700 Los Alamitos Equine Mixed Sale graduate.
Fearlously Ivory finished fourth in that trial to get the seventh-fastest qualifying time of :20.093 seconds. John Allred trains the Colorado-bred daughter of IVORY JAMES form the Tres Seis mare Ima Fearless Fire. Jacob Enriquez had the riding assignment for the filly's third career start.
Bred by Vaughn and Jill Cook, Fearlously Ivory broke her maiden in her last start June 29th. She is an $18,000 Los Alamitos Mixed Equine Sale graduate.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Arizona Downs on Wednesday, September 15th to vie for the winner's share of a $10,000-added purse.
