SHELBYVILLE, IN—AUGUST 14, 2021—A pair of IVORY JAMES 2-year-olds, led by Zack James, and a ONE FABULOUS EAGLE filly qualified for the $191,747 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity on Saturday at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino.
Under jockey Shanley Jackson, Zack James raced to a half-length win over Count Down in the third trial Saturday to post the third-fastest qualifying time of :17.982 seconds, a 91 speed index.
Coming off a second-place effort in the $131,600 Jaguar Rocket Futurity in his last start on July 24th, the IVORY JAMES colt races for owner-breeders the Cleary Family. Ron Raper trains the Indiana-bred colt from the Leader Of The Class mare Romped. Zack James has won two of four starts this season and earned $45,670.
Count Down, who finished second in the trial for owner-trainer Anthony Cunningham, held on to the fifth-fastest qualifying time from the 40 two-year-old's who participated in the five trials on Saturday.
Also by IVORY JAMES, Count Down was bred in Oklahoma by Vaughn and Jill Cook from the Rare Form mare Rare Encore. Ridden by Luz Martinez, County Downs has placed in three of four starts this season and earned $7,910.
The QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity will be the first stakes appearance for the $19,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate.
Royal Vista Ranches' leading second-crop sire ONE FABULOUS EAGLE sired Fabulous Barbara who posted the ninth fastest time for the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity. Racing for trainer Hector Sanchez and owner Angel Ventura, Fabulous Barbara finished third in the second trial with a :18.101 clocking.
Darling Farms bred the $11,000 Heritage Place Mixed Sale graduate from the Oak Tree Special mare Send A Candy Tree. She has placed twice in three starts at Indiana Grand this year. Edgar Diaz was riding.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Indiana Grand on Saturday, September 4th to vie for the winner's share of the purse.
