Fastest Qualifier Kool And Fabulous Returns to Win $118,600 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby

ALTOONA, IA—JULY 11, 2021—In the first of two stakes at Prairie Meadows on Sunday afternoon, fastest qualifier Kool And Fabulous retuned to win the $118,600 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby.

Kool AndFabulous ($4.40) and jockey Edwin Escobedo led at every call and defeated the full field by a half-length as the post-time favorite. The final time for the 350-yard race was 17.526; the winner earned a speed index of 98.

Kool And Fabulous picked up her first stakes win and her fourth career win in seven starts. The $47,440 winner’s share of the purse pushed her career earnings to $80,623.

Jason Olmstead trains the ONE FABULOUS EAGLE filly for owner and breeder Brenda Reiswig. The filly is out of One Kool Wagon, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

Kool And Fabulous broke her maiden at Remington as a 2-year-old, where she has made most of her starts. She was the fastest qualifier from five trials on June 27.

A photo finish for second place revealed Shadi Lady and Alfredo Triana, Jr. a nose in front of third place finisher Not a Secret and Jonathan Dominguez.

Brenda Reiswig also owns and bred Shadi Lady, who is trained by Clinton Crawford. The Oklahoma-bred Valiant Hero filly is out of the Tres Seis mare Seis the Royal Cash, making her a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Royal Cash Flash.

Shadi Lady has earned $53,737 in her nine career starts. She has finished in the money in five starts, including a third-place effort in the Valley Junction Futurity (G3) last summer at Prairie Meadows.

Not a Secret is trained by Charlton Hunt for owner and breeder Michael Teel. The Hez Our Secret gelding is out of Call as Maybe, by Mr Jess Perry. He has earned $61,304 in 13 starts and four wins. As a 2-year-old, he qualified to the Valley Junction Futurity (G3) and the John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge. Earlier this year, he competed in the Jack Brooks Stakes at Remington.

Completing the field were Ec Ante Up, Purty Darn Quick, My Midnight Candy, Wieburg, Bayou a Cartel and Tres Evidence. Vf Pillow Talk was scratched.
