RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 28, 2021—Ironey, a son of multiple stakes sire IVORY JAMES posted the seventh fastest time on Day 1 of the $1-million Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) trials to qualify to the June 13th $100,000 Ruidoso QH Juvenile final.
Racing for owner-trainer Juan M. Esquivel, the New Mexico-bred gelding improved off two troubled starts at Remington Park earlier this year to get his best finish of the season.
Ironey finished second by three-quarters to the Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) qualifier Appolitical J Legacy in the 11th of 16 trials on Friday. He posted a time of :17.692 seconds for the 350 yards under jockey Jose Ortiz.
Bobby D. Cox bred the $9,700 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate from the multiple graded winning Bigtime Favorite mare Ms Jingles. Ms Jingles earned $453,728 while winning the Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity (RG1) and the LQHBA Lassie Futurity(RG2) as a 2-year-old.
