OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 8, 2020—Ivory Turbo, a lightly raced son of champion sire IVORY JAMES, posted the top qualifying time for the $232,585 Grade 2 Oklahoma Derby Sunday afternoon at Remington Park.
Ridden by jockey Agustin Silva, Ivory Turbo ran down Love Is Everything V in the fourth of six trials to get the top qualifying time of :17.827 seconds, into a 22 mph headwind.
Trainer Michelle Hurdle saddled the Oklahoma homebred to his third win in six starts for owner-breeders Tom and Kathleen McNally. Out of the Rare Form mare Mt Turbo, the black gelding was a finalist in the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Futuirty(RG3) last fall at Will Rogers Downs. He has earned $28,646 to date.
Also qualifying for the Oklahoma Derby was Astranomical, a Texas-bred daughter of multiple stakes sire DOMINYUN. Stacy Charette-Hill trains the sorrel filly for owner M.C. Stucks. Ridden by jockey Jorge Torres the filly posted a :18.075 clocking to secure the 7th fastest time, Bobby D. Cox bred Astranomical from the Royal Quick Dash mare Quick Moon Sign. This only the third start to $11,467 earner.
