CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 22, 2019—In a convincing gate-to-wire win, Preyn Onthe Mountain sprung a slight upset in the $31,229 ARC Oklahoma Distaff Challenge at Will Rogers on Sunday afternoon.

Preyn Onthe Mountain ($22.00) and jockey Jimmy Dean Brooks broke on top and maintained an early lead to win by a neck over fellow 10-1 shot Df Apollitical Sign in second. The final time for the 400-yard race was 19.863, giving the winner a 96 speed index.

Eddie Willis trains Preyn Onthe Mountain for owner Stetson Hurlbert; Dr. Steven Hurlburt bred the filly in Oklahoma out of the Panther Mountain mare Prey.

The IVORY JAMES filly earned her first stakes win in the Distaff Challenge victory, her ninth lifetime start and second effort in among stakes company. She is now three for nine lifetime with $65,275 in career earnings.

Willis also trains Df Apollitical Sign, ridden by Justine Klaiber for owner Jovetta Meredith. Df Apollitical Sign is now multiple stakes placed; she was also second in the 2018 Canterbury Park Derby.

Post-time favorite Tempting Annee Gl was third with Mario Delgado aboard. The Rick Robinson trainee is owned by the Garza Laurel Partnership and was bred in Texas by Francisco Javier Garza.

Tempting Annee Gl is a multiple stakes winner and was fourth in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows in 2017 after winning the Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge that fall.

Completing the field were Trace Dynasty, Queen of the Kartel, Olena Sangria and Mystical Jess.
