Capital Eye Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Desert Classic Futurity Trial Time

Capital Eye, under jockey Jorge Bourdieu, defeats Jess Feelin Blue to post the top qualifying Desert Classic Futurity trial time on Friday at Turf Paradise.

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 19, 2013—PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 19, 2013—Capital Eye broke his maiden Friday afternoon on his way to setting the top time for the Desert Classic Futurity at Turf Paradise Racetrack. The 10 fastest two-year-olds from the three trial races contested will return to the Arizona track on Friday May 3rd and vie for the winner' share of a $30,000-added purse over 300 yards.

Capital Eye was one of three finalists saddled by trainer Matthew Fales. The homebred for Womack Cavender Farms pulled six of the 10 fastest qualifiers from trial #1, including the top four, into the open final for 2-year-old American Quarter Horses.

Under jockey Jorge Bourdieu the Oklahoma-bred completed the 300 yard course in :15.868 seconds, getting his first career win in his first start. Mike Womack bred the IVORY JAMES gelding from the Mr Eye Opener mare Fantastic Six.

Jess Feelin Blue, who finished a half-length off the fastest qualifier in the first trial, posted the second fastest time of :15.958 seconds for Y/N Horse Stables, LLC. Dean and Melina Boyle bred the filly. Omar Lorta saddled with Davie-Reyes Frisby riding.

Heza Royal Scooter posted the most impressive victory of the afternoon with a 2 ¼ length romp in the final trial. Ridden by Ry Eikleberry and trained by Gerardo Ochoa-Pena, the gelding set the sixth fastest time of :16.180 seconds. Jack and Leslie Lee Hale bred Heza Royal Scooter in Arizona .
