Ivory James Dominates Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby Trials

Ferrari James, under jockey Jose Tapia, get the second fastest time after winning the final Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby trial on Saturday.

SHAKOPEE, MNóJUNE 25, 2016óIVORY JAMES sired three of 10 qualifiers Saturday to the Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the 26 three-year-olds who competed today, will return to Canterbury Park Saturday, July 10th to vie for the winner's share of a $68,250 yards over 400 yards.

Third in the RG3 Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Derby two races back, Ferrari James got back on a winning track in the final trial with a one-length victory over Kokko Wagon to set the second fastest time of :20.303 seconds, into a 36 mph crosswind.

Manuel Compos conditions the stakes-placed son of IVORY JAMES for owner Alfredo Botello. Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith, Ferrari James has won four of eight starts and earned $65,764. Jose Tapia was aboard the gelding out of Ferarri Fast Prize, by Mr Jess Perry.

Other IVORY JAMES qualifiers were 9th fastest One Ivory Sign for owners Tom and Bill Maher and 10th fastest Ivory Charmer for owner George Seward.

Bred in Oklahoma by The Mixer Ranch, One Ivory Sign is out of Stylish Sign, by Vital Sign. Jason Olmstead trains with Jesus Salazar riding.

Bobby Cox bred Ivory Charmer in Texas from the Hawkinson mare Mongoosecharminghawk. Robert Don Johnson trains with David Penon getting the riding call.
