The eight fastest qualifiers will return to the Alberta racetrack on Sunday, July 27 and vie for the winner's share of an $18,500-added purse. Also at stake is a starting spot in the $150,000-Guaranteed John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) on October 18 at Prairie Meadows.
Shipping North of the border from the West Coast, Jaymee Love broke her maiden in the second trial with a 1 ˝ length win over Raging Wave to post the top qualifying time of :18.210. The IVORY JAMES filly came into the race off a third place finish for a $12,500 tag at Los Alamitos Race Course on June 6. Jose Rocha rode the homebred filly out of Love To Finish First, by Separatist, for owner-breeder-trainer Dean Frey.
Stella Wave, a WAVE CARVER filly who was second by nose in the third trial, got the third fastest clocking of :18.220 seconds. Tyler Walker rode the filly for owner/breeder Shady Lane Stables. Laurie Ferguson trains the chestnut miss out of Special Corona, by Corona Cartel. She has finished second on both starts this year.
Raging Wave, another WAVE CARVER homebred for Shady Lane Stables finished second to the aforementioned fastest qualifier Jaymee Love but held on to the eighth fastest time of :18.450. Also ridden by Walker and trained by Ferguson, the sorrel filly is out of Rosas Special, by Special Task.
